I’ve watched my daughter struggle with a broken ankle, twice!  I’ve watched my parents’ mobility decrease as they age.
The time to implement features that will improve the livability, functionality and flexibility of your home is before it is necessary.

What is Aging In Place?

“Aging in place”… is not having to move from one's present residence in order to secure necessary support services in response to changing need. We are using the term "aging in place" in reference to living where one has lived for many years, or to living in a non-healthcare environment, and using products, services and conveniences to allow or enable older adults to not have to move as circumstances change.”

The above shower was constructed with a ¾” plywood shell under the tile and backer board.
This provides the structure and support necessary to add grab bars in the future, if needed. The additional cost was negligible and there are no constraints on the placement of the grab bars.

A level European entry was designed in lieu of a raised curb threshold. In the event of decreased mobility, the shower will remain accessible.
